Joel Adkins: Engagement Manager

Meet Joel Adkins, one of our amazing engagement managers here at ParentSquare! He’s responsible for creating and updating training content for internal and customer use, as well as working cross-collaboratively to ensure successful product adoption.

If you had to teach a subject, what would it be?

I actually used to teach and enjoyed doing it! I used to teach various web and multimedia tools to junior high students. I would love to teach high school level English Language Arts and really engage students in understanding literature.

Do you have any pets? If so – what kind? What are their names?

I adopted a rescue bull terrier named Baxter. He rules my world and is spoiled rotten! Poor guy had a rough early childhood before I got him. He is my first and only dog…for now.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in the suburbs of Plano, Texas. I have lived in different Texas cities (Austin, Kerrville, Pleasanton, Crandall and now Allen).

What are you most likely doing on a Saturday afternoon?

Saturday afternoons, I am usually packing up Baxter for a car trip to visit friends. Most of my friends are fellow dog parents, so we give time for the dogs to catch up with each other while the people catch up with each other.

Joel’s pup, Baxter.

Would you rather explore a new planet or the deepest part of the ocean? Why?

I think I would rather explore a new planet in a rover of some type! I love driving and taking off road adventures. I would love to drive and explore a new planet more than deep ocean diving. Plus, I am terrified of deep water!

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Chips and salsa is what I already eat almost every day!

Favorite movie and/or book?

My favorite movie of all time is The Mission. Great cast, story and the Ennio Morricone soundtrack adds such beauty to it all. Mendoza’s (played by Robert De Niro) climb up the waterfall hits me in the feels each time.

What are some small things that make your day better?

When my dog is sleeping paws up, I always go by and give a high-five! I love a refrigerated bag of Twizzlers. I take time each morning to meditate, walk, and set my schedule of tasks before work each day.

What is the nerdiest thing you do in your free time?

I love catching up on old comic books using my iPad and the Marvel & DC Unlimited apps.

One thing you cannot live without?

Same answer to a previous question: chips & salsa.

What do you like most about working for ParentSquare?

Everyone is so friendly and helpful! The onboarding experience is well organized and easy to follow. I can already tell that I will be working with great people in this company!

Joel has been at ParentSquare since November 29, 2021.
